Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Author Agreement

  1. The submitted work is original. For jointly authored works, all co-authors have been informed and have agreed to the submission.
  2. The manuscript has not been previously published and is not currently under consideration elsewhere. It will not be submitted to another journal during the review process.
  3. All necessary permissions for the use of copyrighted materials have been obtained, and all sources have been properly acknowledged.
  4. The manuscript does not contain any unlawful, defamatory, or misleading content, and does not infringe upon the rights of others.
  5. Authors are required to comply with all journal guidelines. Non-compliance may result in rejection or withdrawal of the manuscript without further notice.
  6. Publication fees, where applicable, must be paid as invoiced. All payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  7. All correspondence regarding submissions must be conducted exclusively through official editorial channels.
  8. Manuscripts may be rejected at any stage if ethical violations or plagiarism are identified, including after initial acceptance.

All data collected through the journal's website is handled in accordance with applicable data protection and privacy regulations and is used solely for editorial, administrative, and communication purposes.

2. Open Access Policy

ZJMS provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. All published articles are freely accessible online without subscription or access fees.

3. Copyright and Licensing Policy

Retention of Copyright: Authors retain full copyright of their published work without restrictions.

Creative Commons License: All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits users to read, download, copy, distribute, and use the material for any lawful purpose, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and source.

4. Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

The Al-Zahrawi Journal of Medical Sciences (ZJMS) adheres to the principles and best practices outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

All participants in the publication process — authors, reviewers, editors, and publisher — are required to maintain the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and professionalism.

5. Editorial Responsibilities
Impartiality and Independence: Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on academic merit, without discrimination based on authors' identity, affiliation, or background. All editorial decisions are made independently.
Confidentiality: All submitted manuscripts are treated as confidential documents. Information about manuscripts is not shared with unauthorized individuals.
Conflicts of Interest: Editors must avoid conflicts of interest and must not use unpublished material for personal research.
Publication Decisions: Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. Final decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief based on reviewers' reports and journal policies.
Ethical Investigations: All ethical concerns are handled according to COPE guidelines, including corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern when necessary.
6. Reviewer Responsibilities
Editorial Contribution: Reviewers assist editors in decision-making and help improve manuscript quality.
Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential and not share them without permission.
Objectivity & Timeliness: Reviews must be objective, constructive, evidence-based, and completed within the requested timeframe.
Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must disclose any conflicts and avoid reviewing if such conflicts exist.
7. Author & Publisher Responsibilities
Originality & Reporting Standards: Authors must submit original work, cite all sources properly, present research accurately, and avoid simultaneous submission to multiple journals.
Ethical Compliance & Disclosure: Research involving humans or animals must include ethical approvals and informed consent, and all financial or institutional support must be disclosed.
Content Preservation & Data Privacy: The publisher investigates misconduct, ensures long-term digital archiving of published content, and guarantees that all personal data is handled securely and used only for academic and publishing purposes.
