AUTHOR SUBMISSION POLICY
Guidelines for Authors
 
Al-Zahrawi Journal of Medical Sciences
Authors are kindly requested to prepare and submit their manuscripts in accordance with the following instructions. Careful adherence to these guidelines will facilitate a smooth review, editorial, and publication process in the Al-Zahrawi Journal of Medical Sciences.
1. Manuscript Title and Author Information
The manuscript title should be concise, clear, and informative. Authors must provide the full names and affiliations of all contributors. The corresponding author’s complete contact details, including email address, postal address, and phone number, must be clearly indicated.
2. Abstract, Keywords, and Abbreviations
The abstract must be written in English, using font size 12, and should not exceed 150 words. It should summarize the objective, methodology, contents, results, and conclusion of the study. Keywords should be placed immediately after the abstract, with a minimum of five and a maximum of ten keywords. The first letter of each keyword should be capitalized, and the keywords should be separated by semicolons. Abbreviations should only be used for non-standard and long terms.
3. Manuscript Structure
The manuscript should normally be organized into the following sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Acknowledgement, and References. The Introduction should include a clear statement of the problem and the significance of the study. The Materials and Methods section must be described clearly and sufficiently. Authors may present Results and Discussion either in a combined section or as separate sections. The Acknowledgement section should briefly mention contributors, grant details, and financial support, where applicable.
4. Submission Requirements
Authors are required to submit two separate versions of the manuscript: the first with author names and affiliations, and the second without author-identifying information for the purpose of double-blind peer review. Authors must also provide their contact information, including address, email, and phone number. In addition, the corresponding author is required to submit a signed commitment form confirming that the manuscript has not been published previously and is not under consideration by another journal during the evaluation process.
5. General Formatting Requirements
Manuscripts should be prepared on A4 paper size, typed on one side only, using Times New Roman font. All text should be typed in 12-point font size with double line spacing (2.0). The page margins must be set at 2.5 cm from all four sides. All pages should be numbered sequentially, and the total manuscript length is preferably not more than 15 pages, including references, tables, and figures.
6. Detailed Typing and Layout Specifications
Page Margins
2.5 cm on all four sides.
Font Style
Times New Roman.
Spacing
Three lines should be left from the upper and lower borders, and all lines should be double spaced.
Title
Must be typed in capital letters, bold, with 16-point font size.
Author Name(s)
Must be typed in lowercase, bold, with 16-point font size.
Main Titles
Must be typed in capital letters, 16-point font size, and placed immediately after the left margin.
Minor Titles
Must be typed in lowercase except the first letter, with 16-point font size, and placed immediately after the left margin.
Text
Must be typed using 12-point font size with double spacing throughout.
Equations
Must be prepared using Equation Editor, numbered consecutively, and separated by one line space before and after each equation.
Tables & Figures
Must be referred to in the text using bold text, for example: Table 1 and Fig. 1.
Symbols
Symbols should be placed after the reference list and arranged alphabetically, first using Latin letters and then Greek letters.
7. Tables, Figures, and Graphics
Tables should be used sparingly and should include short, descriptive titles. Figures and graphics must be of good quality, and the preferred file formats are GIF, TIFF, JPEG, or PowerPoint.
8. References and Citation Style
References must be prepared according to the Harvard style. The reference list should appear at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order, with a line space left between references. References must not be numbered. In-text citations should be presented in the format (Author name, year). Authors should include DOIs and URLs where available. Abstracts, conference talks, and papers not yet accepted for publication should not be cited.

10. Publication Fee
Authors will be contacted regarding the publication fee only after the manuscript has been accepted for publication.
11. Proofreading and Publication
A proof copy will be sent to the corresponding author before publication. Authors are requested to review the proof carefully to avoid errors and return it promptly to the editorial office. After final processing, the editorial office will publish the article and send the corresponding author the official publication notice and article link.
12. Rights, Responsibility, and Post-Publication Discussion
The journal retains the printing and publication rights of accepted papers. The author bears full responsibility for the content of the manuscript. The journal welcomes scholarly discussions for up to two months from the date of publication. Such discussions are recommended not to exceed two pages and may be published together with the author’s reply in the subsequent volume.
Important Note
Authors are strongly encouraged to ensure full compliance with these guidelines before submission. Manuscripts that do not conform to the journal’s formatting, referencing, and submission requirements may be returned for correction prior to review.
